According to your website the new waiting room at the Exton station has opened. However I would like to know when the waiting room is open for customers (it was locked when I was waiting for my train to New York the other night). Amtrak and SEPTA do not have anything regarding station waiting room hours at Exton posted to their websites.
Also the new station is turning out great!
|Exton||1/19/2020 11:45 AM|
Illogical there is no SEPTA service to Philadelphia beyond Thorndale. Amtrak service is deplorable, & SEPTA more reliable local service, to take to intermediate stations, such as Wynnewood, as well as Downtown and up to other SEPTA destinations.

Your Plan the Keystone website for the Coatesville stations reads: "The historic station building (closed for more than 25 years) is in need of major renovations and does not meet ADA accessibility requirements. "
This suggests there is currently no train station, please add: though the building is closed, the station still functions as an Amtrak train station.

I was wondering if your station in Harrisburg sells monthly train passes to be used for commute to New York City Monday-Friday. And if so, what is the monthly cost? I am looking to move there but my job offer would like me to start ASAP, and if I could take a train to the city from Harrisburg for work during the week I could start sooner. Thank you.

How much does parking cost at the Lancaster station? I know there is short term parking and long term parking. Is the short term lot only for drop off and pick up? Or for parking the entire day? Is long term for daily communters or cor multiple day parking?
Thank you for all information.

I am checking on the possibility of long term parking Sun 10/7-Sun 10/21 to take train to cruise out of Bayonne NJ. We are thinking of leaving Amtrak out of either Middletown PA or Elizabethtown PA. Is there a daily fee for long term parking? Since we are arriving on a Sunday is there usually parking available in the long term lot?

Good afternoon, I am e-mailing you is I would like to know if Amtrak is studying or going to study new rail service along the Lehigh Valley Line between Harrisburg & Easton making stops in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Reading, Lebanon, Hershey & Harrisburg & continuing into New York in New Jersey along NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line.
IN addition, are there any plans by SEPTA to extend service to Reading & looking to Study once again the 62-mile Cross County Metro project between Throndale & Trenton.
I would greatly appreciate to hear back from you in regards to these matters.

It appears that pets in carriers are not allowed on Amtrak Keystone trains, despite the fact that they are allowed on many other Amtrak train in the northeast. This seems like a disservice to many Pennsylvanians. Do you know why this policy exists? Is any work being done to change it?

I park in Commonwealth Employee parking lot 27W under the State Street Bridge. In figure 15 on page 37 of the Paxton Creek Master Plan, the ‘new street’ parallel to the railroad tracks is shown as going under the bridge for drivers to access Cameron and 10th Street near the railroad tracks, possibly across from where Norfolk Southern vehicles enter their right of way in the western bay. I think that it would be better for the ‘new street’ to connect at 10th Street. The passage way between the bridge piers is wide enough for two vehicles; however, it does not allow for reasonable sight distances for people pulling out of parking spaces. Generally, most vehicles travel in the center of the passage way. Turning this passage way into a regular street would appear to be inviting more conflicts. Also, there are times when local law enforcement has been observed having pre-deployment meetings in the western bay. Having the ‘new street’ enter the at this location would remove this resource from them.
As a daily driver on Cameron Street (usually between Paxton and Market Streets), the potential traffic calming shown on page 27 of the HTC TOD Master Plan, is interesting as it indicates the desire to push traffic to the center two lanes. When I drive on Cameron Street in the morning, left turn conflicts are common for drivers looking to turn from northbound Cameron Street onto the Mulberry Street ramp and looking to turn left from southbound Cameron Street into Discovery House of Harrisburg. On the way home, the main left turn conflict observed is drivers looking to turn left from southbound Cameron Street onto Berryhill Street, presumably as an alternative to Paxton Street. Not saying that there are good alternatives available, but as Cameron Street traffic increases, left turn conflicts may increase.
Additionally, both of the master plans show a new uncontrolled pedestrian crossing on Cameron Street near Discovery House. While I applaud the attempt to connect the Alison Hill area with the TOD Study Area, it would appear that the controlled intersection at Market and Cameron Streets would be better choice for pedestrians. I do not think the installation of a blinking pedestrian light would regarded well by most drivers on Cameron Street. I know that there is an existing pedestrian route (stairs/sidewalk) from Derry Street to Cameron Street, but I do not know how well it is maintained by the City.
As an occasional user of Amtrak services and an even less often user of commercial intercity bus service, I think having the intercity buses collocated with Amtrak and adjacent to scheduled municipal bus service is preferred. In my opinion as a potential intercity bus rider, the Station Passthrough option is the most attractive, the options of placing the bus depot on the east side of the railroad tracks at the old post office property are second and the option of placing it in the Dewberry Lot to the south of the station is last. Access to the Station Passthrough from the Market and 5th Street intersection is good providing a large enough turning radius for buses coming from west and improved grading to deal with the vertical curve of the turn. Either, traffic on 3rd Street may need to be reversed between Chestnut and Market Streets to allow buses a route toward Cameron, or the buses will take 2nd Street and a different route to I-81. The old post office property provides the best access to Cameron Street and onto I-81 & I-83. I think having the intercity buses traverse Dewberry Street is less than ideal.
I think the pedestrian access bridge on page 31 of the HTC TOD Master Plan would be a desired feature for many people. The downside of this option is that many people will start to use the pedestrian bridge as a public right-of-way across the railroad tracks from the surface lots to the Market and Aberdeen Street intersection and this will increase traffic through the Amtrak waiting area in the existing bridge, while the potential upside to this pedestrian bridge might increase business at the small store in the train station. However, I think the expense of the pedestrian bridge is only economical if the intercity buses are relocated to the old post office property.
The completed Market Street Underpass Improvements are nice, but sealing or guttering the two overhead joints might be an idea. The multi-color lights shown on page 28 of the HTC TOD Master Plan are interesting but seems to be an art installation that could be done without (but okay with me if others want them). I think about the colored light from a safety point of view.
I pass by the Market Street pedestrian crossing adjacent to 9th Street, which appears to be heavily used at the beginning and end of each work day, and I realize that this crossing is needed because the pedestrian crossing at Market and 5th Streets does not fully encompass all four sides.

First of all, thank you for providing this wonderful website. I appreciate being able to track the numerous improvements.
I am writing with a request/suggestion. Amtrak presently allows customers to bring bicycles and pets onto many of its trains. Unfortunately, this is not the case for most Keystone trains. I hope that PennDOT considers pushing Amtrak to intoducse these services for Keystoen trains. Allowing pets and bicycles would ulmost certinaly increase the utilization of Keystone service, even if they were only be allowed to be used on off-peak trains.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

Why is PennDOT not investing in rail service improvements accross the entire state? It seems connecting PA's two largest cities, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, with more than one slow train per day would be beneficial to the entire commonwealth.
