The Market Street Bridge Underpass Improvements Project enhanced the walking route between the station and long-term parking to make it safer and more appealing for pedestrians.
The project reconstructed the sidewalks and modernized the lighting along Market Street where it passes under the railroad tracks near the station. The walls and ceiling of the pedestrian passageway (sidewalls, arched supports, and bottom of the bridge above) were painted to further brighten the route.
Market Street Bridge was originally constructed in 1926.
The project was completed in Fall 2016.
PennDOT led the project with additional funding by the City of Harrisburg.
