This project expanded parking and provided lighting, sidewalk improvements, and ADA ramps to accommodate growing ridership and improve access to the train station.
This project involved reconstructing the existing parking lot southwest of the intersection of North Duke Street and McGovern Avenue at the former Fulton Bank, south of Lancaster Station. The lot was expanded to include the unimproved lot adjoining the parking area fronting North Duke Street. The project involved demolition of the existing facilities and parking lot reconstruction, including:
- New lighting and utilities;
- 53 parking spaces;
- An access gate;
- Security cameras;
- New concrete curbs;
- Sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps;
- Drainage features, including two rain gardens;
- New bituminous pavement; and
- Parking lot line painting and signage.
Construction began in July 2020 and was completed in March 2021. The parking lot opened April 1, 2021, to holders of monthly paid passes ($100 per month). South Central Transit Authority manages the lot and issues parking passes.
PennDOT led the project.
