This project is addressing accessibility issues at the platforms and 1953 station building. The work will also improve passenger safety and provide operational flexibility for trains.
This $36 million project is the first of three proposed phases of major improvements to develop Paoli Station into a fully ADA-compliant, modernized, intermodal passenger station. Phase I work includes:
- A new high-level (accessible) platform between the eastbound and westbound tracks, replacing the existing platforms;
- Elevators and ramps;
- A pedestrian overpass;
- ADA improvements to the existing station building; and
- Upgrades to the station's rail infrastructure.
Construction began in February 2017 and is expected to be completed by mid-2019. The foundation for the south tower was completed in October 2017 and the floor was poured in November. Work has also begun on the foundation for the north tower.
Amtrak is leading the project with additional funding by PennDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, and SEPTA.
