Renovated Station

Former Station

The Elizabethtown Train Station is located along Wilson Avenue in the Elizabethtown Borough, Lancaster, County, PA. The existing station, vacant for more than 35 years, was designed by the architectural firm of Zantzinger, Borie & Medary with ashlar limestone and graduated slate roofs and built in 1915 by the Pennsylvania Railroad on the campus of the Masonic Home of Grand Lodge of Fee and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania. The station served both the Masonic Home and Elizabethtown Borough. The station is 86 track miles from 30th Street Station in Philadelphia and 18 track miles from Harrisburg.

In a project announced in April 2009, more than $9.3 million in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was dedicated to the design and construction of the Elizabethtown Station. Improvements were designed by TranSystems Architects and include ADA accessible elevated passenger platforms, restoration of the historic station building and site improvements including a paved parking lot.

Ground breaking for construction was held on August 24, 2009 with a visit from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, PA Deputy Secretary of Transportation Toby Fauver, and other officials from Amtrak and Elizabethtown Borough.

Michael Baker Jr., Inc. performed construction management services through PennDOT Bureau of Public Transportation and hired Lobar, Inc. as the general contractor for the project. Physical construction began on September 01, 2009 with a scheduled duration of 18 months.

The Elizabethtown Train Station renovation is finally nearing completion and construction is expected to end in late January 2011. The Elizabethtown Borough is currently soliciting vendors to occupy the station and finalize the building's operating hours. Once this is complete, the station building will open to the public.

Major improvements to the station and the site include:
Elevated passenger platforms, Elevators from pedestrian tunnel to platform, Variable messaging system at platforms, Historic renovations to the interior and exterior of the station building, Improved signage, Paved Parking, ADA accessible restrooms, Ticket kiosks, New HVAC system, Improved site lighting and landscaping, Redesigned passenger access with sidewalks, crosswalks and curb cuts, New bus loop and bus shelter, Designated vehicle drop-off/pick-up area, Weather screens and canopies at platforms.

Overflow parking at the east end of Wilson Avenue is currently being designed and is scheduled for construction completion during the fall of 2011.
