Middletown is the first station east of Harrisburg along the Keystone Corridor. The station is currently located in Middletown Borough at the intersection of Union and Mill Streets. The existing station has two major deficiencies:
As announced by PennDOT's Deputy Secretary for Local and Area Transportation, Toby Fauver, on December 6, 2010, the Middletown Train Station will relocate to Ann Street/Airport Drive (State Road 441) at West Main Street (Route 230) in Middletown Borough/Lower Swatara Township. This decision was based on thorough analyses of four potential sites, including the existing location, a site at Harrisburg International Airport, "Lot 29" east of Harrisburg International Airport, and the site at Ann Street. The existing and "Lot 29" sites were found to have fatal flaws in terms of engineering and natural resources criteria. Borough and public opinion favored the Ann Street site, which closely met the goals and requirements of riders, local municipalities, PennDOT, and Amtrak, so this location was selected as the Preferred Alternative. PennDOT is actively pursuing federal environmental clearance and property acquisition at the Ann Street site. This website will be updated with any further information. 2011 Ridership – 65,978 |
